How relevant is the Church especially to our daughters who despite acing Sunday school examinations, securing prizes for complete attendance, singing in choirs, active in youth, leave the Church showing no sign of remorse or hesitation whatsoever while getting married? Does the Church even occupy one of the particulars in their groom preferences checklist? Is it part of their parents’ checklist? Are the Church and its sacraments just a pastime for us finding no space in our significant life choices? Are our urges so strong that we can unscrupulously walk over the womb (baptismal font) of our own mother?
All our learning, principles, proclamation, oaths, faith, ethics are precarious. Church is just a showbiz and theology yet another intellectual exercise for many. We imposingly celebrate the memory of the martyrs yet mock them with our actions.
No wonder the Church doesn’t produce saints anymore for she lacks resolute and faithful mothers like Morth Yulithi, Morth Shmuni, St. Nonna, the mother of St. Gregory Nazianzus, and St. Emily, mother of five saints viz. St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Peter of Sebaste, St. Macrina, and Holy Righteous Theosebia the Deaconness.
P.S. If we stop indoctrinating our kids and initiate them into the mystery of Christ whose Body is the Church making them realize the two are not mutually exclusive then perhaps there is hope to salvage at least those left.
